Sub: Potable Water Supply – SFMC PPR PIPES

 The general health of public depends on the potable water piping system its uses to provide an adequate supply of fresh water and to remove that water once we are finished with it. A water distribution system is the system of piping that carries water into and out of an inhabited building or series of buildings. To protect the public health, every inhabited building must provide a fresh and safe supply of “potable” water for drinking. The greatest challenge facing authorities today, is coming to grips with the fact that fresh water is fixed resource. When confronted by deteriorating water and sewage systems that leak, are expensive to replace and susceptible to contamination, water management experts are starting to recognize what other energy utilities discovered long ago. That it is possible to have a virtually leak free piping system that will resist corrosion and ground movement as severe as earthquake at a relatively low cost. A water supply network is a system of piping from storage to consumption (at houses, fire hydrants, industrial use points, etc)

PPR pipe has been in use for Potable Water application since the 2000 in India and has been gaining approval and growth in water boards Some distinctive advantages of PPR pipe that provide important benefits for water applications are listed below:

1. Heat Fused Joints

  •  PPR pipe can be heat fused together to form a joint that is as strong as or stronger than the pipe itself and is leak free. This eliminates the potential leak points every 10-20 feet as found with PVC and Ductile Iron bell and spigot connections.

  • The Life Cycle Cost of PPR pipe differs from others pipe materials because the “allowable water leakage” is zero rather than typical leakage rates of 10 to 20% for PVC and Ductile Iron.

  • PPR pipe fused joints are self restarting and costly thrust restraints or thrust blocks are not required.

  • PPR pipe’s fused joints simply do not leak, eliminating infiltration and exfiltration problems experienced with alternate pipe joints.

2. Flexible and Fatigue Resistant

  • The flexibility of PPR pressure pipe makes it well send suited for dynamic soils including areas prone to earth quake.

  • PPR pressure pipe can accept repetitive pressure surges that significantly exceed the static pressure rating of the pipe.

3. Construction Advantages

  • The combination of flexibility and leak free joints allow for unique and cost effective types of installation methods that the rigid PVC and Ductile Iron pipes can’t use with bell and spigot connections.

  • PPR pipe is produced in straight lengths up to 4 meter long and coiled in diameters u through 75mm. coiled lengths over 100 Meter are available depending on size providing low cost installation.

  • PPR is about one-eight the density of steel, it does not require the use of heavy lifting equipment for installation.

4. Cost Effective, Long Term and Permanent

  • PPR pipe installations are cost effective and have long term cost advantages due to its physical properties, leak free joints and reduced maintenance costs.

  • The PPR pipe industry estimates a services life for PPR pipe to conservatively be 50-100 years. This relates to saving in replacement cost for generation to come.

5. Corrosion and Chemical Resistant

  • PPR pipe will not corrode, or support biological growth.

  • PPR pipe has superb chemical resistance and is the material of the choice in harsh chemical environments The advantages of corrosion and chemical resistance over traditional metal pipes are shared by many plastic pipes, but PPR uniquely combines these attributes with the aforementioned advantages of heat fused joints, flexibility and fatigue resistance.

6. Hazen Williams C Factors is 150 and doesn’t change over time

  • PPR pipe has a smooth ID that does not corrode and maintains its flow capability over time.

  • The C Factor of Ductile Iron pipe is dramatically reduced over time due to corrosion and/or tuberculation.

Moreover, we produce PP-R pipes in multi-layer, having 3 different layers of:

1. Inner most layer which will be in direct contact with fluid is of Anti-microbial / Anti bacterial layer. This layer prevents the growth of bacteria.
2. The middle layer is the plain PP-R, black in colour, which imarts further U.V. Stability to the product against atmosphere effects and highly exposed and deteriorating U.V. rays.
3. The outermost layer is a UV stabilized PP-R layer. Thus, providing the outermost UV stabilized layer on the PP-R pipes has controlled the ageing process.
